LaGuardia Airport is a national airport located in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York City. The airport is located approximately 9.1 miles/14.6 km east of downtown Manhattan in New York City. The nearest, alternative, international airport is John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) located 12 miles/19.3 km from LaGuardia Airport. The capital city of The US is Washington, D.C.
This airport covers 680 acres/280 ha and is the third busiest airport serving New York City, and the twentieth busiest in the United States. In 2019, the airport handled 31,084,894 passengers.
LaGuardia Airport carries the international airport code of LGA (IATA) and KLGA (ICAO). The airport sits in a slightly elevated location at 21 feet/6 meters above sea level at 40°46′30″ N and 73°52′30″ W.

All visitors can easily get to and from LaGuardia Airport by road. Travelers will find the main road Grand Central Pkwy just outside the airport terminal. Driving west on the main road will connect you with FDR Dr, which will bring you to downtown Manhattan. Driving east on the main road will take you to the highway for your further destination. The travel time from downtown Manhattan to the airport is approximately 22 minutes depending on traffic.
Upon arrival at the airport, travelers will find a broad selection of car parking options to choose from. LGA Airport offers both long and short-term parking in different parking areas close to the terminal buildings. Designated disabled parking is also available near the entrance in all of LaGuardia’s parking facilities.
Terminal Information
LaGuardia Airport operates two runways. Runway 04/22 is 7,001 feet/2,134 meters long and runway 13/31 is 7,003 feet/2,135 meters long. The airport operates domestic flights and serves four terminals; Terminal A, B, C, and D. Terminal A is known as the Marine Air Terminal and is located on the west side of the airport. It is solely occupied by JetBlue, where both Departures and Arrivals are located. Terminal B is also known as Central Terminal Building (CTB) and is the biggest terminal of all four terminals. Here passengers will find an Arrivals level, a Departure level, and an Upper level with VIP lounges. Terminal C handles mostly flights from Delta and American Airlines, and also serves an Arrivals level and a Departure level. Finally, terminal D has evolved into a high-tech facility, where passengers will find free Wi-Fi, iPads desks, and much more.
LaGuardia Airport provides a complimentary bus to transfer between terminals. Visitors of the airport will find different bus lines including:
- Purple Route: Runs between Terminals B, C, and D and parking lots.
- Red Route: Runs between Terminals A, C, and D and parking.
- Blue Route: Runs between Terminals A and B parking.
The frequencies of the buses are all between 8 to 15 minutes and they operate 24/7.

Transport to and from LaGuardia Airport

Passengers will find several bus connections from LGA Airport. New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) buses offer a great variety of bus services between LaGuardia Airport, Manhattan, Queens, and beyond with connection to the subway, Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Railroad. The MTA bus service operates the following bus lines; Q47, Q48, Q70 SBS, Q72, and M60 SBS. The bus stops are located outside each of the terminal buildings. A one-way trip on MTA buses or subways costs $2.75.
There are no direct train or subway connections from LaGuardia Airport. However, from Terminal A at LGA Airport, passengers have different options. They can take the Q48 bus, with a connection to the 7 subway line, at 111 St/Roosevelt Ave. Alternatively, they can take the Q47 bus, with a connection to the 7, E, F, M, R subway lines, at 74 St/Roosevelt Ave. Finally, they can choose to take the M60 SBS to Manhattan.
In addition, taxis are available at the airport. Visitors will find the taxi stand directly in front of the Arrivals Hall of all four passenger terminals. A taxi trip from LaGuardia Airport to New York City takes about 30 minutes depending on traffic. All taxi services at the airport are metered taxi services.
